Read this Russian work in the original on Самовар — free, no account needed, with Marian Fell’s English translation beside the text.
English by Marian Fell (1912), public domain. Swipe right on the text to read it beside the Russian, or tap the EN button on the right. Fell drops a few short exchanges outright, so those lines correctly show no English. A literary translation is not a crib: the English follows the sense and the tone rather than the words, so a line here will rarely answer the Russian beside it one for one.
